Liberal journalists took special delight in evidence that the new Pope seems to disagree with the Trump administration on issues like immigration, yet Pope Leo XIV’s obvious opposition to same-sex marriage, abortion, and other positions embraced by American liberals received a lot less attention from these same programs.

After Cardinal Robert Prevost became the first American ever to be elected Pope on Tuesday and took the name Leo XIV, MSNBC’s Katy Tur picked and chose what aspects of his beliefs to amplify and which ones to downplay or ignore.
